The doors to black limo just opened quick enough to release a frantic Abbey. She shot past them in a blur of dark hair, alabaster skin, and spike-heeled boots. She’d only just now gotten the call. Why had it taken so long to call her?

I need you to be

All that you’ve been

(All that you’ve been)

Before

(Before)

The doctor’s words were little more than a nonsensical droning and of no consequence to her then. She needed to be by her husband’s side. She needed to be there, now. Tomorrow, if he even had one, would wait. It would have to.

And I need you to follow

All of those signs

That led you here

(That led you here)

She finally slowed down as she came upon his room and took a steadying breath before looking in. He looked so...alone in that bed, small almost. Too small for the words that bounced around her head from just days before.

To me...

He should’ve been awake, but still, he wasn’t. He was pale. So pale, in fact, that she’d bet that his eyes would match his lips if they were open. That brought no smile to her face. He skin was cool to the touch.

‘Cause I’m so lost

And I can’t find my way...

Home, again.

She willed him to open his eyes and look at her, but closed they remained. She’d concede defeat if that’s what he wanted. She conceded. He’d won. He looked like someone else.

All of those signs

That led you here

(That led you here)

To me...

She crawled into the bed beside him and slid her arms around him. He was too cold and she had to feel his skin just to know he was alive. He turned his head to rest it on her chest. He could hear her heartbeat. It was like a beacon, a lighthouse for a ship lost at sea.

Help me find my way home,

Again.

I’ve never been this far gone,

This far distracted...

Lead me home...

She stroked his hair and held him as tightly as she could. She could sense the moment, the importance of it and dared not let it slip away.

And I need you to follow

All of those signs

That led you here

(That led you here)

To me...

‘Cause I can’t find my way...

Without you.

He breathed her name softly and she cried in fear of a chance she'd nearly lost and in joy for the one that she hadn’t.

Lead me home

She’d never let go.
